Story: Edward William Young was born in Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, on 26 Sep 1890 and baptised there on 9 Nov 1890 the son of Edward Tom Young and Fanny Young (nee Maidment). (N.B. The Christian names conform to the birth and baptism records though they were frequently reversed in the records not least of all in the Military Records and some family research also gives him a third christian name of Vincent.) He spent much of his life in Ebbesbourne Wake though he had an adult second baptism at the Roman Catholic Church in New Wardour Castle, Tisbury, Wiltshire. He enlisted and joined the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment as a Private (Service No. 22971). At some time he was transferred to the East Yorkshire Regiment (Service No. 36021). It is not known in which theatre of war he served but on his discharge was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. Very little identifiable information is recorded after this time except his death in Nov 1971 which was registered at Salisbury, Wiltshire, and that he was buried at Ebbesbourne Wake on 20 Nov 1971.
