Story: Kathleen Louise Miles was born on 26th May 1888 at Owermoigne, Dorset, and baptised there on 21st June 1888, the daughter of Edward Henry Miles (an Estate Agent) and Louisa Mary Miles (née Best). By 1901 the family had moved to Slade House, East Knoyle, Wiltshire. In February 1915, Kathleen joined the British Red Cross (Voluntary Aid Detachment) and remained in service as a Nurse until 1919. She served in the Red Cross Hospitals at Malmesbury, Melksham and Chippenham, as well as the Auxiliary Hospitals in Devizes and Tisbury, all in Wiltshire. By the 1939 Register she was living at 3 Spenser Road, Poole, Dorset, and was described as a School Cook. She remained single throughout her life and died in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, on 15th April 1979 aged 91 years.
