Story: Walter Pool Bartlett was born in Yeovil, Somerset, on 17 Aug 1893 and baptised there on 8 Nov 1893 the son of Herbert Bartlett and Jane Bartlett (nee Pool). By 1901 he had moved to Tarrant Gunville, Dorset, and by 1911 to Iwerne Minster, Shaftesbury, Dorset. He had enlisted and served with the 5th Battalion of the Dorsetshire Regiment as a Private (Service No. 10009). He served with his unit in the Balkan Theatre of War and on his discharge on 14 Feb 1919 he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1915 Star. He married Matilda Emma Windsor in Iwerne Minster, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 29 Mar 1921. By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at New Cottages, Red Rice, Andover, Hampshire, working as a Cowman. His death was recorded in Andover in 1954.
