Arthur Gatehouse

Story:
Arthur Gatehouse was born in Ludwell, Donhead St. Mary, Wiltshire, on 21 Dec 1880 and baptised at the Independent Chapel, Birdbush, Ludwell, on 23 Jan 1881 the son of William Henry Gatehouse, a Tailor, and Clara Madonna Gatehouse (nee Gray).  He lived his early life in Ludwell until by 1901 he was working as a Footman at 55 Princes Gate, Westminster, London.  He was recorded in the 1911 Census as living at 32 All Saints Road, Landport, Portsmouth, Hampshire, now working as a Waiter.  He enlisted on 8 Oct 1914 and joined the Hampshire Regiment as a Private (Service No. 13974).  He served with the 16th and 14th Battalions in the UK only until he was discharged as being unfit for further service on 24 Dec 1915.  No other information can be found in the records that can be relied upon.
