Story: Edward Dewey Small was born in 1892 in East Knoyle, Wiltshire. He was the son of Thomas Small, a Farm Bailiff, and Elizabeth Ann Small (nee Dewey). At the time of the 1911 Census he was single, working as a Farm Labourer and living at 27 Milton, East Knoyle, Wiltshire. He enlisted in Swindon, Wiltshire, in the Mounted Branch of the Corps of Military Police (Service No. P/2005). He served in the Balkans from 22 Oct 1915 including Greece and at the time of his death held the rank of acting Lance Corporal. He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1915 Star. He died of an unknown cause on 15th July 1916 and was buried at Salonika (Lembet Road) Anglo-French Military Cemetery, Salonika, Greece (grave id. 255). He is remembered on the East Knoyle War Memorial. There is no record of any dependent's pension being awarded. His father died in 1917 and his mother in 1924.
