Story: Maurice Jesse was born on 27 Jul 1898 in Sixpenny Handley, Dorset and baptised there on 25th September, 1898. He was the son of Arthur Jesse, a Coal Merchant, and Edith Jesse (née Foote). At the time of the 1911 Census he was single, a Scholar and living at Sixpenny Handley, Dorset. He enlisted in Salisbury, Wiltshire, as a Private in the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment (Service No. 22255). He served in France & Flanders and was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. He went missing and was presumed killed in action on 9th April 1917 three months before his 19th birthday. His name appears on the Arras Memorial in France (Bay 7) and also on the Sixpenny Handley War Memorial. No dependent's pension appeared to have been awarded.
