Story:
Joseph Alford was born in Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, Dorset, in 1890 the son of Samuel Thomas Alford and Rebecca Alford (nee Burden).  He spent most of his early in Enmore Green.  He enlisted in Croydon, Surrey, on 1 Nov 1915 and joined the Royal Engineers as a Driver (Service No. 136741).  He was with the 88th Field Company but it is not known in which theatre of war he served.  On his discharge he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.  Beyond these facts his last known address via the Absent Voters Lists of 1918/1919 was given as 32 Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, Dorset.  No other information has been found and further research is ongoing.  His brothers, Elijah Tom Burden Alford and Edwin Walter Alford, also served in the conflict.
