John Wareham

Story:
John Wareham was born in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 17 Oct 1893 and baptised at St. James Church on 12 Nov 1893 the son of Frederick Wareham and Kate Wareham (nee Gulliford).  He lived his very early life in Shaftesbury until, by 1901, the family had moved to Portswood, Hampshire, where John's father had obtained work as a Painter.  By 1911 the family were back living near the Chapel, Enmore Green, Shaftesbury.  John enlisted in the Royal Navy on 19 Aug 1912 for a period of 12 years (Service No. K.15785).  He became a Leading Stoker serving on various ships throughout his time.   He was transferred to the Reserves on 17 Apr 1920 and had been awarded the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1914/15 Star.   He married Margaret Emmeline Mary Hounsell in Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, on 17 Dec 1922.  By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 61 Coppice Street, Shaftesbury, Dorset, working as a Plumber.  His death was recorded at the Sturminster, Dorset, Registry in 1973 and his ashes were interred at Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, on 26 Mar 1973.
