Story:
Arthur George Roberts was born in Donhead St. Andrew, Wiltshire, on 26 Jan 1891 and baptised there on 22 Feb 1891 the son of John William Roberts and Louisa Roberts (nee Paskell).  He lived all his early life in Lower Street and later Bartholemew Street, Donhead St. Andrew, until by 1914 he had moved to Putney, London, SW as a Police Constable.  He married Emily Mann there in Mar 1914.   He enlisted on 23 Feb 1916 with the Royal Naval Air Service as an Air Mechanic Class 1 (Service No. F12246).   He worked as a Rigger on Airships and on Balloons in places such as Port Said and Alexandria, Egypt, and France and Flanders.  He was transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force on 1 Apr 1918 with Service No. 212246.  He was eventually discharged on 11 Apr 1919 and awarded the Victory and British War Medals.  He returned to the Police Service and served for a number of years in Islington, London.  By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 'Yoqa', Dover Road, Dover, Kent, still as a Police Constable.   His death was recorded in Kent on 25 Jun 1964.
