Story:
Arthur Charles Moore was born at West Orchard, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 12 Sep 1894 the son of Harry William Moore and Elizabeth Jane Moore (nee House).  He lived his early life at Keybrook Road, West Orchard.   He had enlisted on 23 Jan 1911 and joined the 11th Hussars as a Private later transferring to the 13th Hussars as a Private (Service No. 6880) and served in India.   He was transferred then to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry Division) on 27 Jun 1916 (Service No. 56823) becoming a Lance Corporal.  He served in France & Flanders and later in Ireland until his discharge on 13 May 1919.   He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1914/15 Star.  (He remained as a Territorial until 22 Jan 1923).  He married  Lottie May Rose at Sturminster, Dorset, on 6 Apr 1920 and by the 1921 Census they were living with his parents-in-law at 97 Glue Hill, Sturminster, Dorset.  By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 98 Glue Hill, Sturminster, Dorset, working as a Dorset County Council Roadman.  He death was recorded in Sturminster in 1946.  His brother, Harry Philip Moore, also served in the conflict.
