Story: Henry James Bryant was born on 14th September 1891 in Kilmington, Wiltshire and baptised st St. Mary's Church, Kilmington, on 27th March,1892. He was the son of James Bryant, a shepherd, and Elizabeth Bryant (née Dodington). His siblings included Herbert George Bryant (b.1894) who was also died in the war. At the time of the 1911 Census Henry was single, working as a farm labourer and living at Middle Chase, Bowerchalke, Wiltshire. He enlisted in Shaftesbury as a Private in the 2/4th Dorsetshire Regiment (Service No. 201091). He gave his address at the time as Ashmore. He served in Egypt and was awarded the Victory and British War medals. He died on 24th November 1917 and was buried at Jerusalem War Cemetery, Churchill Blvd. (grave id.G.10). He is remembered on the Ashmore War Memorial, Shaftesbury.
