Story: Robert George Brown was born in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 9 Mar 1885 the son of John Brown, a Postman, and Mary Ann Brown (nee Andrews). Robert lived all his early life with his family at 9 Bleke Street, Shaftesbury, until by 1911 he had moved to 58 Grove Road, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, where he was also a Postman. He had married Nellie Stevens in Christchurch, Hampshire, on 14 Jan 1918 but was immediately enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps on 15 Jan 1918 (later from 1 Apr 1918 the Royal Air Force) as an Airman Class 3 (Service No. 121627). He served in the UK only and was eventually discharged on 5 Mar 1919. There is no medal record although he appeared to qualify for the British War Medal. By the time of the 1939 Register he was still living at 58 Grove Road, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, and still working as a Postman. His death was registered at the Poole, Dorset, Registry on 2 Mar 1959.
