Story: Montague Stephen Burr was born in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 20 Dec 1894 and baptised at Holy Trinity Church, Shaftesbury, on 26 Jan 1896 the son of Thomas Burr and Ellen Seline Burr (nee Jenkins). The family lived in Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, Dorset, when Montague's father died in 1906. His mother re-married Arthur Street and by 1911 they were living elsewhere in Shaftesbury. Montague enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery as a Gunner (Service No. 18542). He served with his unit in Egypt and on his discharge was awarded the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1915 Star. On the 18 Feb 1922 he departed for Australia from London and arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, on 27 Mar 1922. He married Effie Julia Donald in Victoria, Australia, in 1929. He spent much of his life after in Fitzroy South, Yarra, Victoria, Australia. He died in Parkville, Victoria, Australia, in 1947.
