Story: Leopold George Miles was born in Donhead St. Mary, Wiltshire, on 26 Feb 1897 and baptised at St. John the Baptist Church, Charlton, Donhead St. Mary, on 4 Apr 1897 the son of Charles Leopold Miles, a Miller and later Farmer, and Anna Miles (nee Alner). He spent some of his early life at the French Mill, Cann, Shaftesbury, Dorset, until by 1911 the family had moved to Buckhorn Weston, Dorset. Leopold enlisted on 11 Jun 1918 and joined the Royal Marines Artillery (Service No. 3187). The is no other information available regarding his military service. The 1921 Census shows him living with his parents at Cooper Mill Farm, Stourton, Zeals, Wiltshire, working as a Iron Moulder. His marriage to Honora Helen Farthing was registered in Mere, Wiltshire, during 1922. By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at Onslow Lodge, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, still working as an Iron Moulder. His death was recorded in Blandford, Dorset, on 20 Apr 1944.
