John Burr

Story:
John Burr was born in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 4 Mar 1890 the son of John Burr and Elizabeth A. Burr (nee Brockway).  He lived his early life in Bimport, Shaftesbury, and later at Dorset House, Haines Lane, Shaftesbury, until by 1911 he had moved to Caledonian Road, London, N1, where he was boarding and working as a Grocer's Assistant.   He married Lizzie Gray in Romsey, Hampshire, in 1916.  He enlisted and joined the 1/4th Battalion of the Dorsetshire Regiment as a Private (Service Nos. 3904 & 201937).  It is not known in which theatre of war he served but on his discharge on 11 Oct 1919 he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.   By the 1939 Register he was living at 38 Clifton Park Avenue, Merton, Surrey, working as a Bacon & Cooked Meat Salesman.   His death was recorded at the Surrey North West Registry in 1960.
