Story: Hubert Arthur Wright was born in Havant, Hampshire, on 1 Mar 1896 the son of Henry Arthur Wright and Rose Rebbeck Wright (nee Hiscocks). By 1901 he was living with his family at Fern Farm, Donhead St. Andrew, Wiltshire. He had enlisted with the Army Catering Corps as a Private (Service No. 4682). He was promoted in time to Corporal serving in France & Flanders from 4 Mar 1916 where he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry. On the 3 Nov 1917 he was commissioned and became, in time, a 1st Lieutenant. On his discharge he was further awarded the Victory and British War Medals. The 1921 Census shows him boarding at 106 Bradford Road, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, having become a Police Constable with the Wiltshire Constabulary. He married Annie Frances Miles in Maidenhead, Berkshire, during 1924. By the 1939 Register his address was given as The Police Station, Amesbury, Wiltshire, with the rank of Superintendent of Police. His death was recorded in Bournemouth, Hampshire, on 2 Jun 1965. His brother, Richard James Wright, also served and survived.
