Story: Alfred John Lucas was born in Ludwell, Donhead St. Mary, Wiltshire, on 18 Apr 1898 (along with his twin brother, Thomas James Lucas, and they were both baptised in Ludwell on 22 May 1898 the sons of Alfred Lucas and Julia Anne Cox Lucas (nee Reed). Alfred lived all his life, apart from Military Service, in the Ludwell area. According to the 1918 Absent Voters List he had served with the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment though no other obvious records or medal rolls have been found. His marriage to Annie Phyllis Littlewood was recorded at the Tisbury, Wiltshire, Registry in 1924. By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 8 Council Houses, Ludwell, Donhead St. Mary, Wiltshire, working as a Bricklayer. He died at the Westminster Memorial Hospital, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 10 Mar 1955. His twin brother also served in the conflict.
