Story: Alfred Frank Hunt was born in Cann, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 24 May 1897 and baptised at St. Rumbold's Church, Cann, on 27 Jun 1897 the son of Rose Lavinia Hunt (no father is mentioned at this time). He lived his early life with his Uncle and Aunt in Cann. He enlisted with the Somerset Light Infantry as a Private (Service No. 37118). It is not known in which theatre of war he served but at some time he received a gunshot wound to the back and was granted a pension as a result. On his discharge he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. The 1921 Census shows he was a patient in Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, London, SE5. He married Olive Fummerton at the Kirkstall Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Kirkstall, Leeds, Yorkshire, on 26 Dec 1923. By the 1939 Register he was living at 50 Salisbury Street, Pudsey, Yorkshire, described as Provisions for Confectionary, Tobacco and Hardware (Manager) as well as being a volunteer ARP Warden. His death was recorded in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, during 1980.
