Story: Albert Wheatley was born in Hendon, Middlesex, on 29 Apr 1887 the son of Frederick Wheatley and Emily Elizabeth Wheatley (nee Wood). He spent his early life in Hendon and married Emma Gray (formerly of Shaftesbury, Dorset), in Islington, London, during 1910. Albert had enlisted and joined the 238th Heavy Transport Company of the Army Service Corps as a Driver (Service No. T4/084714). It is known he served overseas but not the location and on his discharge was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. The 1918 Absent Voter List gave his residence as 15 Gold Hill, Shaftesbury, and the 1921 Census shows him then living at 78 St. James Street, Shaftesbury, described as a Fishmonger. By the 1939 Register he had returned to 420A Watford Way, Hendon, Middlesex, where he was now shown as a Master Fishmonger. His death was recorded in Rochford, Essex, during 1954 following which time his widow returned to Shaftesbury to live.
