Frank Charles Lawrence was born in Fontmell Magna, Shaftesbury, Dorset, in 1885 and baptised there on 18 Oct 1885 the son of Tom Lawrence and Sarah Ann (Annie) Lawrence (nee Dibben).   He lived much of his life in Lurmer Street, Fontmell Magna, Shaftesbury, except for a period when he worked as a Servant at Rosemount, Grand Parade, Eastbourne, Sussex (then a private residence).   He enlisted on 12 Feb 1916 and joined the 1/3rd Battalion of the London Regiment as a Private (Service No. 5600).  He later transferred to the 5th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers (Service No. 63517) and then the 2nd Battalion (Service No. 210266).  His final move was to the Royal Defence Corps (Service No. 96260)..  During his service he was in France and Flanders but was eventually discharged being unfit for further duty due to sickness on 12 Dec 1918.  He was awarded the Silver War Badge No. B66427 and the Victory and British War Medals.  No other information regarding Frank has been found except a family reference to his death in 1958.

Edward William Young was born in Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, on 26 Sep 1890 and baptised there on 9 Nov 1890 the son of Edward Tom Young and Fanny Young (nee Maidment).  (N.B. The Christian names conform to the birth and baptism records though they were frequently reversed in the records not least of all in the Military Records.)   He spent much of his life in Ebbesbourne Wake.   He enlisted and joined the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment as a Private (Service Nos. 46268 & 22971).  At some time he was transferred to the East Yorkshire Regiment (Service No. 36021).  It is not known in which theatre of war he served but on his discharge was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.  Very little identifiable information is recorded after this time except his death in Nov 1971 which was registered at Salisbury, Wiltshire, and that he was buried at Ebbesbourne Wake on 20 Nov 1971.

William Edward Bath was born in Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, on 13 Mar 1896 and baptised at Fovant, Wiltshire, on 3 May 1896 the son of Charles Bath and Mary Ann Bath (nee Foyle).   He lived his early life with his family in Pound Street, Ebbesbourne Wake.  By 1911 he had moved to Handley Street, Ebbesbourne Wake, living with his Uncle.   He enlisted on 4th Nov 1915 and joined the Royal Navy becoming a Stoker 1st Class (Service No. K28944).   He was discharged on 7 Jan 1919 and awarded the Victory and British War Medals.   His marriage to Frances Ellen Penny was recorded at the Wilton, Wiltshire, Registry in 1922.   By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at The Coote Arms, Martin, Fordingbridge, Hampshire, described as a Dairy Farmer and Licensed Victualler.   His death was recorded at the Salisbury, Wiltshire, Registry in 1982.

Septimus Andrews was born in Alvesdiston, Wiltshire, on 1 Sep 1871 and baptised there on 24 Dec 1871 the son of Robert Andrews and Jane Andrews (nee Hiscock).  He spent his early life with the family at Church Farm, Alvediston, until by 1891 he had moved to Trelewis, Gelligaer, Glamorgan, for work as a Coal Miner.  His marriage to Mary Susanna Locke was recorded at Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, in 1891.   He enlisted on 11 Jan 1895 and joined the Royal Garrison Artillery as a Gunner (Service No. 7896).  By 1901 he was based at Tolland, Hampshire, and was employed as an officer's coachman.  He was noted as being single in the Census records for that year and this remained part of his record thereafter.  He served in the UK throughout until discharged on 10 Jan 1907.   By 1911 he was working as a Servant and Groom and living over the Stables at The Mansion, Burton Lazers, Leicestershire.  He re-enlisted with the Royal Garrison Artillery at the outbreak of war (Service Nos. SK/3330 & 278330).  He served in France and Flanders with the 123rd Heavy Battery but was declared unfit for further service and discharged on 21 Nov 1918 with a pension which ended in 1924.  He was awarded the Silver War Badge No. B42218, the Victory and British War Medals as well as the 1915 Star.   By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at The Post Office & Stores, Thorn Satchville, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, working as a General Labourer.   His death was recorded in Melton Mowbray during 1946.

Henry Stanley Rogers was born in Semley, Wiltshire, on 29 Jun 1896 the son of George and Emily Rogers.  He spent his early life at Semley Green, Semley, until by 1911 he was boarding in East Tisbury, Wiltshire, where he was working as a Drapers Assistant.  He enlisted and joined the Dorsetshire (Queen's Own) Yeomanry as a Private (Service No. 1381). He served in France and Flanders being transferred to the Corps of Hussars (Service No. 230649) and finally to the Guards Division of the Machine Gun Corps (Service No. 5044).   On his discharge he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.   He married Dorothy May Field in Bournemouth, Hampshire, during 1926.  By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 135 Redhill Drive, Bournemouth, Hampshire, working as a Shop Assistant (Carpets) as well as being a Special Constable.  His death was recorded in Bournemouth during 1970.

Basil Wilfred Henry Arnold was born in Bulford, Wiltshire, on 11 Oct 1899 and baptised there on 14 Nov 1899 the son of Rev. Cecil North Arnold and Sarah Alice Arnold (nee Seary).  He lived his early life in Bulford until his father was appointed Vicar of Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, prior to 1911.  In 1911 Basil was a pupil boarder at Cranleigh School, Cranleigh, Surrey.    He enlisted on 17 Oct 1917 and joined the Royal Flying Corps (Royal Air Force from 1 Apr 1918) as a Pilot (Service No. 100238), His commission as a Pilot Officer was announced in the London Gazette on 15 Nov 1918.  He was discharged on 29 Oct 1919.  He would have been eligible for the Victory and British War Medals but no actual records of RAF awards can be found.  He married Elspeth S. McKay (or McDearmid) in Croydon, Surrey, in 1934.   By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 55 Park Hill Road, Croydon, Surrey, working as Technical Brewer and Assistant Manager.  He later moved to Rosemary Cottage, Farnham, Dorset, and his death was recorded at the Blandford, Dorset, Registry on 14 Jan 1989.   His brother, Leonard Frank Cecil Arnold, also served in the conflict but was regrettably killed in action.

Herbert Charles Maidment was born in Fifield Bavant, Wiltshire, on 9 Apr 1888 the son of Samuel Maidment and Martha Maidment (nee West).  He lived his very early life in Fifield Bavant until, by 1901, the family had moved to Topp Hill, Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire.   Herbert married Annie Rebbeck at St. Martin's Church, Salisbury, Wilthshire, on 23 Feb 1909 and they went on to have five children.  By the outbreak of war he was living in Pound Street, Ebbesbourne Wake.  He enlisted on 10 Dec 1915 and was mobilized on 25 May 1916 joining the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment as a Private (Service No. 25783).  He served in Mesopotamia with the 5th Battalion and, whilst there, received gunshot wounds to the leg on 16 Apr 1917 from which he recovered.  He was finally discharged on 7 Dec 1919 being physically unfit for further service due to Pleurisy which had been aggravated by his time in the Military.     He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.  By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 7 Roberts Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire, working as a Garage Labourer.   His death was recorded in Salisbury in 1960.

Isaac William Foyle was born in Codford St. Peter, Wiltshire, on 17 Sep 1880 the son of Isaac Foyle and Harriet Foyle (nee Chant).  He lived most of his life, apart from Military Service, in Broad Chalke, Wiltshire.   He married Agnes Hargrave at Broad Chalke, Wiltshire, on 9 Dec 1905.  He enlisted and joined the 5th Battalion of the Duke of Edinburgh's (Wiltshire) Regiment as a Private (Service No. 32196).   It is not know in which theatre of war he served but on his discharge on 28 Apr 1919 he was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.   His name was placed on the Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, Roll of Honour.  By the time of the 1939 Registry he was living at 2 Knighton Road Council Houses, Broad Chalke, Wiltshire, working as an Occasional Bricklayer.  His death was recorded at the Salisbury, Wiltshire, Registry on 18 Apr 1951.

Harold Tom Holloway Foyle was born in Bower Chalke, Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, on 8 Mar 1891 and baptised there on 9 Apr 1891 the son of Henry Foyle and Mary Louisa Foyle (nee Holloway).  He lived most of his early life in Bower Chalke.   He enlisted on 29 Nov 1916 and joined the Royal Navy becoming an Able Seaman (Service No. J62614).  He was eventually discharged on 12 Mar 1919 and awarded the Victory and British War Medals.   He had married Margaret Ellen Penny in the Wilton, Wiltshire, Registration area in 1916.  By 1921 he was living at Oakley Farm, Wimborne St Giles, Dorset.   His wife, Margaret died in 1938 and by the 1939 Registry Harold was living at the Gastard Stables, Cosham, Wiltshire, working as a Farm Labourer and Gardener.  He re-married Louisa Parrott in Devizes, Wiltshire, in 1941.  His death was recorded at the Salisbury, Wiltshire, Registry on 17 Mar 1970.

Enos Grove Foyle was born in Bower Chalke, Wiltshire, on 7 Mar 1900 and baptised at St. John the Baptist Church, Ebbesbourne Wake, Wiltshire, on 15 Apr 1900 the son of Enos Foyle and Emma Lilly Foyle (nee Maidment).  He lived most of his early life in the Bower Chalke and Ebbesbourne Wake area.  He enlisted on 1 Dec 1915 in the Royal Navy as a Boy Class II (Service No. J47272).  He was invalided out on 21 Jul 1916 and awarded the British War Medal.   He emigrated to Chauvin, Alberta, Canada, arriving on 11 Apr 1924.  He was due to take up work at Hillside Farm, Chauvin.  He unfortunately died on 15 Sep 1924 and was buried in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on 18 Sep 1924.
