Story:
Henry Eli Charles Brickell was born in Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 3 Nov 1891 and baptised there at Holy Trinity Church on 6 Dec 1891 the son of Eli Charles Brickell, a Tailor, and Lucy Ellen Brickell (nee Gray).  He spent his early life at 37 Bimport, Shaftesbury, until by 1911 he was living at 15 North Street, Bere Regis, Wareham, Dorset, working as an Assistant School Teacher.   He married Ellen Elizabeth Brine in Enmore Green, Shaftesbury, Dorset, on 5 Nov 1914.  He had enlisted with the Dorsetshire Regiment as a Private (Service No. 17340).  It is not known in which theatre of war he served but in due time became an Acting Sergeant being finally discharged on 10 Feb 1919 and awarded the Victory and British War Medals. By the time of the 1939 Register he was living at 1 Gold Court, Wareham, Dorset, described as a Headmaster.  His died in Spettisbury, Dorset, on 9 Feb 1942.   His brother, Albert Frederick (aka Frederick Albert) Brickell, had also served and survived.
