Story: Charles Dibben was born on 8 Jan 1899 at Twyford, Compton Abbas, Shaftesbury, Dorset, the son of Alfred Dibben and Sarah Ann Dibben (nee Rideout). They lived at 45 Twyford, Compton Abbas at the time of the 1911 Census. Charles enlisted on 6 Jan 1917 but was not embodied until the 22 May 1918 when he joined the 25th Reserve Cavalry Battalion of the Hussars of the Line as a Private. (Service No. 69362). He was later transferred to the 7th Tank Battalion of the Royal Tank Corps (Service No. 311932) and served in France. He was demobilized on 24 Feb 1919 and was awarded the Victory and British Medals. He married Glady J. Rideout in 1928 in the Wokingham, Berkshire, Registration District, and by the 1939 Register they were living at Horders Farm, Mill Lane, Melbury Abbas, Charles being described as a Dairy Farmer. He died in July 1986 in the North Dorset Registration District.
